Holiday cheer abounds in the Tri-Valley with lights, music and decorations
As winter chill sets in in Northern California’s Tri-Valley region, the area comes alive with holiday festivities. The Tri-Valley’s towns and cities hold a variety of celebrations that truly make the region come alive in a way only small-town America can.

Vineyard vibes
Livermore’s McGrail Vineyards & Winery is hosting its annual Holiday in the Vineyards event on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8 from noon to 4:30 p.m. each day. Local vendors will have goods at a pop-up market, McGrail will have five wines available for tasting, pizza will be offered for purchase, and live music will be onsite for entertainment.
Tickets are available online for $25 each for non-members of McGrail’s wine club and $15 each for members. Each ticket includes all five wine tastings and a commemorative stemless glass.
Wreaths of smiles
Ready to turn your hand to holiday crafting? Add some distinct variety to your holiday wreaths by creating your own from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at The Succulent Experience Holiday Wreath Workshop at BottleTaps in Pleasanton. Attendees create their own holiday wreaths that incorporate live succulent plants, creating a unique new holiday twist on traditional pine wreaths.
Tickets are $75 per person and include all materials. Reservations can be made via Venmo to the instructor’s account, michelle-waters-7, with the note listing “12/8” to indicate the class date.
In the spirit
If you have a holiday sweater, ugly or not, Downtown Pleasanton’s Spirit and Sweater Stroll on Dec. 14 from 5 to 8 p.m. gives you the chance to break it out. Twenty businesses create holiday cocktails for you to try while exploring downtown in a holiday sweater.
After checking in at Pleasanton’s Museum on Main, strollers get a wristband, glass, and map to guide them on an exploratory journey of the area. Drink, be merry and embrace the holiday cheer with the array of specialty cocktails on offer. Tickets are $55.20 each and are available on Eventbrite.
Go ugly or go home
Keep that ugly sweater ready for the Ugly Holiday Sweater Party with Live Music from Sweet Tooth on Dec. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. Hosted by BottleTaps, this celebration features Sweet Tooth, a local band performing country and rock covers; a contest with prizes for the best ugly sweaters; and $1 off all large draft beers.
No tickets are needed. Just show up to BottleTaps while it’s going on and enjoy the festivities with more than 200 beers, ciders, and meads offered.
Ringing in 2025
If you’re looking for a special way to celebrate New Year’s Eve, the Tri-Valley knows how to welcome the new year in style. Livermore’s Bankhead Theater is hosting Jeff Bordes and Friends: Swinging in the New Year on New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m.
Jeff Bordes is known for his skill with the trumpet to make jazz music. Bordes is also a composer and music instructor, providing a well-rounded skill set to plan the perfect night out. Tickets are $100 each online.
