Cool your spring fever with Irish celebrations and classic cars
As spring begins in Northern California’s Tri-Valley area, visitors are coming to enjoy the outdoors as nature comes to life. Wildflowers are beginning to bloom and temperatures are warming up. With miles trails for running, hiking, and biking, it’s time to spring into action and get away to the Bay Area.
The Rose Hotel in Pleasanton, Calif., offers relaxing and quiet ambience—a great escape from bigger, crowded cities. Taking inspiration from small European-style boutique hotels, the Rose Hotel emphasizes quality stays in an intimate setting to ensure your trip is one you’ll always remember fondly.
Wine and Dine
Given that Northern California is known for wine production, no trip to the area would be complete for wine enthusiasts without a visit to a local vineyard. March 14 is a great day to visit Livermore’s Concannon Vineyard for the Founder’s Day Winemaker Dinner.
The dinner, lasting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., consists of a four-course meal honoring the Irish heritage of founder James Concannon. The event marks a great way to kick off St. Patrick’s Day weekend a bit early and features four of Concannon’s finest wines. General admission is $130 per person for the memorable meal, and tickets are available on the Concannon Vineyard website.
Dublin marks 40th St. Patrick’s Day celebration
If you’re looking for another way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, the Tri-Valley area has a lot more fun to offer. Taking inspiration from its Irish namesake, Dublin, Calif., is hosting its 40th St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on March 16 form 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and March 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The festival is a St. Patrick’s Day extravaganza, with three stages hosting performers of Irish dancing and music, an international food court, more than 250 vendor booths, carnival rides, a special drone light show and an Irish tea cottage. A parade will take place on the 16th at 9:30 a.m., and a 5K fun run and walk is available for those looking to celebrate in a healthy way at 8:30 a.m. on the 17th.
Admission is free.
Traditional Irish tunes
Keeping the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations going, Danú: Traditional Music of Ireland is performing at the Bankhead Theater on March 16 at 8 p.m. Danú is a group of musicians from Ireland itself who give a glimpse into Irish culture for those watching their performances.
From lively jigs to meaningful ballads, Danú is here to amaze a Northern California audience for one night. Tickets are available on the Bankhead website for $50 to $80.
Calling all car enthusiasts!
The next weekend, as the weather warms up, the classic cars come back out of the garage at the Goodguys All American Get-Together on March 23 and 24 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Goodguys is one of the largest collector car organizations in the country, and the event includes more than 3,000 vehicles on display. The Rose Hotel is often host to many of the car lovers who come to town, and we love having them as guests! We are just a few minutes’ drive from the fairgrounds, too, and our covered parking space is filled with the classics whenever Goodguys are in town.
A swap meet, classic cars for sale, more than 200 vendors, model car show, autocross racing competition, live entertainment and more are all on offer, ensuring attendees won’t get bored. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 23rd and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 24th. Tickets are $10 to $25, excluding fees, and are available on the Goodguys website.
Dance into April
If you’re coming to the Tri-Valley in early April, enjoy a slice of Indian culture with Nava Dance Theatre: Rogue Gestures/Foreign Bodies. This April 7 performance at 3 p.m. at the Bankhead Theater uses the power of dance as a window into the experiences of immigrant women workers who came to the U.S. from India.
The Nava Dance Theatre specializes in a style known as bharatanatyam, which they use with their own additions to tell the tale of women who came to the U.S. after American immigration restrictions were lessened in 1965 with the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Tickets to this performance are available on the Bankhead Theater website for $35 to $65.
When you’re finished enjoying all California’s Tri-Valley has to offer, our staff at the Rose Hotel is here to help you recharge for the next day. We take pride in attending to every detail to ensure guests stay with us feeling refreshed.
