Tree lightings, parades, music and wine bring holiday cheer to the Tri-Valley
As November begins in California’s Tri-Valley region, the month and coming holiday season bring a whole new slate of festive and fun events to enjoy. Take a break from the fast pace of life and relax at Pleasanton’s Rose Hotel while embracing the joys of this time of year.
If you’re feeling un poco loco, Livermore’s Bankhead Theater is hosting Coco in Concert, a screening of Disney’s “Coco” with performances of the movie’s score from Orquesta Folclorico Nacional de Mexico, on Nov, 15 starting at 7 p.m.
This will surely be a way you and your family have never seen the award-winning movie before. Tickets are available for $60 to $90 per person from the Bankhead Theater website.
A little wine & cheese
To take some wine country inspiration home to your Thanksgiving celebrations, check out Gather, Gobble, Cheers at McGrail Vineyards in Livermore on Nov. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. The event showcases carefully paired wine and cheese combinations from a professional cheese monger and winemaker.
Visitors will learn about cheese and wine pairings and the art of charcuterie, and McGrail wines will be available for sale. Thanksgiving Boxes featuring the delicious cheeses from the event will also be available for preorder to pick up from Livermore’s specialty cheese shop, The Cheese Parlor.
Tickets are available online for $75 each for non-members of the McGrail Wine Club and $65 for club members.
Walk or run off the turkey dinner
Feel less guilty eating your Thanksgiving dinner by participating in the Tri-Valley Turkey Burn on the morning of Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. Packet pickup and onsite registration for this run takes place at 7:30 a.m. at the starting line at Pleasanton’s Ken Mercer Sports Park, while the warmup starts at 8:45 a.m.
Runners take off at 9 and 9:10 for the 10K and 5K events, respectively. Sponsors will have booths onsite, and non-perishable food is accepted for donations to those in need.
Registration is $15 per person, and you can sign up on the run’s website.
Swinging into the holidays
After Thanksgiving, get into the holiday spirit for the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Wild and Swingin’ Holiday Party. Taking place on Nov. 25 at 8 p.m., enjoy the classic sounds of jazz and swing from Grammy-winning band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.
The show takes place at the Bankhead Theater, and tickets are available for $70 to $100 per seat from the theater website.
Lighting of the Old Oak
A favorite Tri-Valley tradition takes place each year the day after Thanksgiving in Danville. The Lighting of the Old Oak Tree and celebration will be from 5:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 24 this year. It’s a free event featuring Father Christmas and a Snow Angel. Local choral groups provide music and neighborhood businesses pass out hot beverages. Don’t miss this beautiful holiday tradition.
Home for the holidays
Are you coming to enjoy a holiday celebrating the holidays in early December? Start an exciting day of winter holiday magic with the Livermore-Amador Symphony Free Family Concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at Livermore’s Bankhead Theater.

After the concert, head back to Pleasanton for the ever popular Hometown Holiday Celebration on Dec. 2 starting at 5 p.m., the perfect way to continue the festive feeling to start the month off right.
The Hometown Holiday Celebration begins with the parade at 5 p.m. on downtown Pleasanton’s Main Street featuring a variety of community participants playing music, marching, and exhibiting floats. Immediately after the parade, stay for the town’s tree lighting, which will include music and a visit from Santa sure to delight the kids.
