In Pleasanton, we will be kicking off our action-packed festivities with a musical tribute for our veterans; on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 1:30-3 p.m, the Pleasanton Community Concert Band Veterans Day Ceremony takes place at the Veterans Memorial Building, 301 Main St., Pleasanton.

The following weekend, Sherman Ranch at 7500 Camino Tassajara in Pleasanton hosts the Sherman Ranch Holiday Event from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m on Saturday, Nov. 13. Come visit the beautiful Sherman Ranch, known for raising majestic Arabian horses, where you can shop from more than 40 local vendors, enjoy live music and mouth-watering BBQ.

When you’re ready to explore something else on the 13th, check out the Alameda County Holiday Market Extravaganza at Stoneridge Mall, 1 Stoneridge Mall Rd in Pleasanton, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Here you can shop local vendors, enter giveaways and more at this event hosted by the California Shoppers Market, a small business organization.

If art is a bit more your speed than shopping or holiday-themed festivities, pay a visit to the Tri-Valley Artist Studio Tour between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13 and Sunday, Nov. 14. Featuring 57 artists in private studios and art collectives, this free self-guided tour through Pleasanton and the nearby towns of Livermore, Dublin and Danville allows you to meet local artists, learn about their creative processes and purchase artwork. If you want to see the area in a unique way, you can sign up for an easy bike tour. If Saturday is just too long to wait, there’s a preview show from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at Almost Famous Wine Lounge in Livermore.

Maybe art’s too slow-paced for you, and you’re looking for something with the rumble of a V8. Goodguys 31st Autumn Get-Together at Alameda County Fairgrounds at 4501 Pleasanton Ave. in Pleasanton, takes place from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 13 and 14. This fall tradition features more than 2,500 American-made (or American-engined) rods, customs, classics, muscle cars and trucks of all years, as well as Veterans Day celebrations and discounts on tickets for veterans. In addition, check out the event’s Nitro Thunderfest Dragster Exhibition, Burn Out Competition, swap meet and Cars 4 Sale Corral, live music and more!

On Thanksgiving, if the thought of how much turkey you’re about to eat makes you sick, the 7th Annual Tri-Valley Turkey Burn 5/10K walk/run/stroll should help alleviate your guilt! Pick up your packet from Ken Mercer Sports Park, 5800 Parkside Dr. in Pleasanton, on Thursday, Nov. 25 at 8 a.m., and start your race at 9. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pleasanton North to benefit Tri-Valley Youth Programs, this event is dog-friendly! Nonperishable and unexpired food donations will be accepted for Tri-Valley Haven, a nonprofit helping those with severe economic needs.

Once Thanksgiving is over, if you’re in a winter holiday mood, kick off the season with Pacific Chamber Orchestra Presents Handel Messiah at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Bankhead Theater at 2400 First St., Livermore. Greet together the start of a new holiday season with the orchestra’s self-styled Messiah. Be in the midst of harmonious voices for this uplifting, cherished musical experience.
