Enjoy California Wine Month in Pleasanton, Book Rose Hotel’s ‘Main Street Special’ for Convenience
It has been a long, dry summer. California wildfires are still burning in many areas. Here in Alameda County, we have had some challenges with smoke, and our skies have been darkened (though not permanently and not on a daily, 24-hour basis).
We are, however, aware of the extreme dangers facing many of our friends throughout California and Oregon. Residents of these regions and the firefighters working to keep them safe have our wholehearted support.
Tri-Valley Wineries celebrate Wine Month
At the Rose Hotel, we are members of the Livermore Valley Wine Growers Association and September is California Wine Month. Livermore Valley is one of California’s oldest and most popular wine-growing areas. Many of the more than 50 wineries in the Tri-Valley area are open for outdoor tastings, though reservations are recommended.
This is the 16th year for California Wine Month, and participants statewide are celebrating California’s 250 years of wine-making history. According to Focus on Travel, California has more 4,000 vintners, nearly 6,000 grape growers and is the world’s fourth-largest wine producer. More than 80 percent of wine made in the United States comes from our beautiful state and more than 90 percent of wines made here are produced in a Certified California Sustainable winery.
“Harvest is underway and it’s a great time to experience your local wine country by visiting us in person or joining a virtual tasting,” said Chris Chandler, executive director of the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association in a recent interview with Wine Industry Advisor. “You will discover a wide variety of award-winning wines made by boutique producers and industry leaders.”
The Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association is a nonprofit organization that supports the wineries, growers, and members in the Livermore Valley American Viticultural Area. To find what events are happening this month, visit their website.
To celebrate the month, many of our wineries have instituted outdoor, patio-based tastings and pairings with socially distanced seating, along with specific time limitations to be able to accommodate more visitors. Even better, many wineries have opened their kitchens, too.
Visitors to Pleasanton and the Bay Area will be able to sip and savor at many wineries through September, enjoying tasting flights and even snacking on a cheese, charcuterie, or sandwich plates.
Remember, though, that patio seating can be limited. Social distancing means that patio events are being carefully crafted to provide both wine and safety; reservations are likely to be necessary.
You also will likely need reservations for most winery events, including tours. Our local wineries have carefully developed strategies for maintaining social distances throughout tours of the vineyards and tasting rooms.
